ANDREAS KURKOWITZ COLOURING STUDIO

Blonde, brunette, redhead? The right (or wrong) hair color can make or break a girl’s allure and confidence. That’s why Berlin’s girls have emitted a collective sigh of relief with the opening in the German capital of star colorist Andreas Kurkowitz’s Salon (andreaskurkowitz.com), focused entirely on hair coloring (the first in Germany to do so). In the stylish studio loft, hidden for privacy in a courtyard of the hip area of Mitte, one can finally experience the magic of the young German colorist based in London. That, when he’s not backstage at fashion shows of designers such as Saint Laurent, Lanvin, or Calvin Klein, or on photo shoots for Italian or British Vogue (he’s responsible for Edie Campbell’s look), takes care of the chic hues of London’s It girls at Josh Wood’s Salon in Notting Hill. In Berlin he’s introduced his philosophy of “not colored” looks: subtle, soft shades, adapted to the personality and lifestyle of each client, that, as he tells us, “enhance what is already there.” A session to his salon feels like a visit to the home of a very cool friend. Clients and stylists mingle and chat around a communal table, sipping tea in a casual and cozy atmosphere. In Berlin 2 days a week (waiting time for an appointment, 2-3 weeks) Andreas follows personally each client. His technique? Both free hand balayage, and with foil. “I use less color, but it needs to be in the right place; where it shows, or not shows, depending on the needs. Unless the client wants a statement color, worn like an accessory.” The result? A better, shinier version of oneself. Worth every penny (Color form euro 80, highlights from euro 160).
